I was introduced to badminton in the 2nd grade- by my dad. We’d just shifted to a new residential colony, which happened to have a purpose-built badminton court, although not with the ideal playing surface. My dad, being an amateur player himself in his college days, got a pair of two Rackets and a box of shuttles and took me for practice. It was there that I started my love affair with badminton; learning basic strokes (the flat drives being my favorite!), posture and position, and basically just having fun.

For many people, interest in any sport usually begins at public places such as parks and community play areas.
Well, mine began with my dad!
Fast forward to more than 15 years: I now play at the very same place, as a semi-professional. Fortunately, the quality of the game has improved tremendously, and so has the competition!
But what is it that made me a badminton addict?
Honestly, I cannot pinpoint a single reason. True, being a physically demanding sport, badminton does have its advantages of keeping our body fit, and the mind sharp.
But badminton is so, so much more!
- Firstly, it’s a very effective community building exercise: just visit a local club or even a local gully where children play every evening, and you’ll see nothing but people having fun, chatting, discussing and having a quality time with their friends. Not to mention that like any other sport, badminton breaks the barriers of politics, age and even income, where it is played at a community level.
- Second, and what I like about badminton the most, is that badminton provides us a sense of satisfaction, regardless of whether we win or lose. The intense rallies, the delightful trick shots, the powerful smashes and equally deft defenses, all of which give us a tremendous sense of achievement.
- Thirdly, it helps in personality development: imbibing the values of sportsmanship, dedication, discipline, and above all, compassion. It helps develop interpersonal skills, and can also act as a catalyst for business relations!
These reasons have spurred me to share with you the varied aspects of this beautiful game, and hence this blog. I will attempt to the best of my ability to cover as many topics as I can, from the history to the micro-aspects of the game to reviewing equipment.
I hope you will enjoy the journey, and learn something new along the way. Please feel free to leave your opinions in the comment section, or write to me through the contact page.
Have fun!
